Kanji for Manga
MANGA
Now that I'm working on the Keenspace version of Muertitos full time, I doubt much new stuff will be showing up here. At least not new stuff by me. Let that stand as a cryptic pronouncement. Anyway, most of this old stuff is a bit embarassing now. I've improved a lot both in drawing skill and in simply knowing what the hell I was doing with the scanner. Please forgive the blurry, nasty look to the drawings and enjoy my seminal issues.

Dystopia
My attempt at a science-fiction series, as well as a series with a continuing storyline. It wasn't a big success and I got tired of it pretty fast. Also I moved shortly after Issue 3 and my manga production went down a lot for a while. On the plus side, I do like these characters, and I'll probably use them again someday. Also note that the scans are much better than my other series, although I still didn't know how to use Photoshop to touch them up.

First Chapter- January 2003

Second Chapter- March 2003

Third Chapter- May 2003

Muertitos
The original Muertitos, before it was on Keenspace. Premiered on September 17, 2001, which in retrospect was a pretty inauspicious time to be making jokes about dead people. This is earlier that Dystopia... note the worse scans and the lettering I actually PRINTED OUT, CUT OUT, and GLUED to the pages. That seems really lame now, but this was a time in my life when I was bouncing around between countries a lot and I didn't want to have to rely on having a computer to work.

Issue 1: Low-Fat Chicken Soup For The Dead Soul- September 2001 - Note that I used the beginning here on the new Muertitos series. I've used it three times in all (there's a "lost issue" that's not up here) because I like it so much.

Issue 2: XXXodus- November 2001 - Your typical lesbian porno Bible-story fest.

Issue 3: A Hello To Arms - January 2002 - I really like the founding-father mutants. They'll probably show up again some day.

Issue 4: Vodun Hodun Yodun- March 2002 - Like a lot of things I do, a big part of this was just "let's find an excuse to fatten up the female characters". But hey, it worked.

Issue 5: In Heaven There Is No Steer- June 2002 - This introduced the big wasteland west of the city, which ended up being one of my favorite characters.

Issue 6: The Secretions of Fatima- September 2002 - Last of the regular issues. But now it's on Keenspace, four days a week!

Flying-Suit Reiko
The one that started it all. Except for Swamp Opossum, an even EARLIER comic which was done only in pencil. (There's a pencil run of FSR too. Trust me, it looks even crappier than this.) I love these characters, and they WILL return someday.

Issue 1: Mylar Attacks!- January 2000 - First Reiko comic in ink! Back then, I was doing it with old fashioned pens you actually dip in inkwells. Those are supposed to be really good if you get skilled with them, which I did not do.

Issue 2: Reiko In Lust- February 2000 - Mentos is introduced. Mentos started off as a parody of Mendou from Urusei Yatsura, while ALSO being a parody of "Lendo" from Ninja High School, and NHS's penchant for ripping off Takahashi characters in general.

Issue 3: Potchari Sweat- March 2000 - Yay, Potchari! I didn't really know how to draw hot plump girls back then, so she actually looks pretty skinny except for her stomach. I really like this one because I got to do my big "fuck you" to the diet companies.

Issue 4: When Millionaires Attack- April 2000 - This was the first inked FSR that wasn't just a redraw of something I did in 1998-1999.

Issue 5: Demon-Streaked Dress- May 2000 - Yui gets her chance to shine (pronounced "shee-nay"). Fun fact: Like a lot of FSR characters, Yui started off as a spoof of some character or other. In this case it was "Molly" (or whatever her real name is) from Sailor Moon.

Issue 6: There's Something About Mariko- June 2000 - The beginning of the M/M relationship. I do think they're cute together.

Issue 7: Triumph of the Wool- July 2000 - After doing a couple stories with the Mylarians, I wanted to actually show Planet Mylar.

Issue 8: A New Student Comes to Musashi High- July 2000 - Bob Floy gets introduced. Fun fact 2: Originally, he was a joke on stereotypes of Americans, huge and hyper-patriotic and completely clueless about the rest of the world. But I realized it wouldn't make any sense for him to speak Japanese, so he became a fanboy instead.

Issue 9: Futurmama- August 2000 - Another Sailor Moon thing. Remember this was from 2000, when anime in the US was DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon.

Issue 10: Jigoku Sensei Michael Jackson- October 2000 - I mispelled it "Micheal Jackson" when I first put this page up, and I got so many hits from people mistyping his name into Google. And I guess now I will again.

Issue 11: Valley of the Idols- November 2000 - Big space war issue!

Issue 12: The Death and Return and Death and Return of Shige- December 2000 - More with Shige and Potchari. They're hard to write for because they don't really have a lot of conflict or problems. They're just this really loving couple, which is boring.

Issue 13: Chocolate Bundam-February 2001 - A Valentine's Day story. Like all lonely people, I hate Valentine's Day, so there's a lot of carnage, buildings blowing up, glass being eaten, etc. I rarely try to coordinate stories with specific dates, because I'm never sure when I'll have them done.

Issue 14: Yuugi Nights-April 2001 - Another one of those stories that's a straight-up spoof of one particular thing. I don't do these so much anymore.

Issue 15: Gold Miners of Aught One- May 2001 - Partly based on a fairy tale and partly on a bizarre manga called "Otenki no Oneesan", which features a character very much like this issue's Psyko.

Issue 16: Nihao My Ballkicker- June 2001 - I had to get around to Ranma 1/2 sooner or later. I used to be a big fan of Takahashi, but it's dropped of recently as I've become aware of more series.

Issue 17: The Sandwich Horror- August 2001 - These next two issues are the closest I've ever done to doing a two-parter. They're connected, but not really related at all.

Issue 18: Project A-hab- September 2001 - Part two of the big "Summer Job" thing. This one's interesting because it contains a reference to my favorite manga, One Piece, done at a time when I had no idea what it was except that it was about pirates. I wouldn't actually read the series until months later.

Issue 19: They Might Be A Giant- November 2001 - John Rocker is crushed to death. Whee!

Issue 20: The Silence of the Penguins- December 2001 - Introduction of Kenichi's father, and a little insight into why he's so messed up.

Issue 21: Calista Flockhart Should Eat More Fatty Foods- February 2002 - The final regular volume of FSR, in which we meet the Earthketeers! Looking back at this, it comes off as really nasty and right-wing towards environmentalists. You'd never guess that I'm a radical socialist myself. On the plus side, the FA message comes through pretty well.

FSR Return Special: A New Hope- May 2004 - The new hope was that SLG would publish this.... Oh well, it was nice to draw them again! That's all for the series until someday....

Short Story

Itazura Hakase- June 2002- A series that just had one issue, basically. It's in my idea file for now.

Short Stories/One-Pages

Futomomoe (FSR 1.5) - Started off as something completely independant from FSR, but I threw Reiko and Mariko in one scene and gradually Momoe and co. became bit characters in the regular continuity. Of course, since they're first years and the regular cast are third years, they rarely meet. Oddly enough, the letter-faced girl, Nonomohe Kanako, seems to be very popular with fans for some reason.

The Natrix (FSR 5.5) - More Potchan and Shige stuff.

Mommy's Curse (FSR 6.5) - Why Reiko is like Reiko... (also, why Crash Nutria, a very distant descendant of Reiko, is that way...)

Kink's Awakening (FSR 7.5) - Waterbaby! I love Waterbaby. She's just the perfect thing to bug the hell out of Kenichi.

Bride of Shinin (FSR 20.5) - This golem thing probably would have come back if there had been more issues.
